Do It Yourself Adirondack Chair
The Adirondack Mountain range is known for the creation of the rustic furniture tradition in 19th-century in America. The ancestor of the modern Adirondack chair seems to be the Westport chair designed around 1900 by Thomas Lee, who had a vacation cottage in Westport, at Lake Champlain in New York. One winter Lee loaned his new chair pattern to his friend and hunting partner, Harry Bunnell who at that time was an unemployed carpenter. Bunnell started making what they called 'Westport Chairs' with backs, seats, and armrests made of wide planks. He formed his design in 1905. This model was the first design of the future angled back - wide armrest Adirondack Chair. Adirondack chairs have become extremely popular in the last few years. The design of the Adirondack chairs is somewhere between a normal garden chair and a laid back deck chair.
